Abstract

Abstract: This paper explores the major types of metaphor in President Xi Jinping’s speeches, the functions of metaphor and different translation strategies from Chinese to English. The finding is achieved by collecting the data of Xi Jinping’s important speeches and establishing the metaphor corpus based on the metaphor theory in cognitive linguistics. The findings in this paper are helpful to deliver President Xi’s administrative strategy and political purpose to international audience.
