Abstract
"Black and white" being a pair of dual categories in the Chinese traditional philosophy has changed its meaning when talked in calligraphy aesthetics aspect. In calligraphy aesthetics, "black and white" are showing in the following aspects: distribution of official script or the method of writing, taking white as black in the word and calligraphy, thick and light of these two colors, dryness and wetness changes in calligraphy. This thesis revealed many details about how the dual category of "black and white" are refined into calligraphy, which can lead us to have a deeper level understanding of the essence of Chinese calligraphy and open a way of thinking for the study of calligraphy aesthetics.
